Music Video: Partner – ‘Play The Field’

Stereogum has premiered Partner’s new single with a music video directed by Lesley Marshall. Watch the video below or click here to see the whole feature, including an interview with Lucy and Josée!

Josée on Play The Field:
“This song is based on a true story of when I (Josée) was in grade eight. My friends were really good at sports but I definitely was not; I was eager to belong. I gathered all my courage and tried out for my school basketball team. Somehow I made it past tryouts and onto the single ‘A’ team. I was so happy to just be on a team, it didn’t matter that I would only score one basket all season, or that I would score on my own team.

Lucy and I try to channel that blissful state in this song, which could be described as an effort to reclaim some of our dignity by surrendering to our true talents. It’s about admiring, romanticizing, and desiring the dignified excellence that seems to come along with being good at sports, knowing it’s something you will never truly experience but not really minding because you’re stoked that you get to hang out with your crush at practice.”

New Release: Partner – “In Search Of Lost Time”

New Release: Partner – “In Search Of Lost Time”

June 1, 2017 | Posted in: Partner 0

You’ve Changed Records is proud to announce the September 8th, 2017 release of the long-awaited debut album from Partner – In Search Of Lost Time.

Already well-celebrated for their enthusiastic and action-packed live shows (The Globe and Mail declared them “the best new band in Canada” after one of their first shows) and early singles (Hot Knives, The “Ellen” Page, Personal Weekend) In Search Of Lost Time takes things to a whole new level (not just standing on a small wooden step and ripping out a totally excellent guitar solo).

Recorded by Josh Korody and mixed by Chris Shaw (Ween, Weezer, Bob Dylan, Public Enemy, Wilco), In Search Of Lost Time is heavy as a crush, nimble as a thimble, smart as a doctorate, stupid as edible underwear; 12 songs that shudder with wit, melody and the peerless confederation of Josée Caron and Lucy Niles. None of their influences – not Weezer, Ween, Dinosaur Jr or any of the lesbian superfecta (k.d. lang, Melissa Etheridge, Tegan, Sara) – marry Partner’s craft for singles and their willingness to laugh at themselves – at least not with the same smiling candour. In Search Of Lost Time proves that it’s always more freeing, and probably more fun, to be the butt of the joke.

Partner debut ‘Comfort Zone’

Here it is! The first listen/look of the long-awaited and upcoming Partner full-length.

“A comfort zone does not have to be a place. A comfort zone is whatever makes you feel at ease. It can be a person, an object, a sensation. No two comfort zones are the same. We recognize that we have had the privilege and good fortune to experience comfort in a way that unfortunately eludes many. We feel that everyone deserves to feel the relief, however fleeting, that is offered by a comfort zone. We recognize that most people spend the majority of their time outside their comfort zones, and with this song, we hope to express our belief that everyone deserves to feel comfortable and safe.

Whatever, wherever, whoever your comfort zone may be, it is our hope that you are able to access it as often as is necessary.

Love and respect,
Partner.”
